Tell us about yourself. My name is Dan Coppola. I grew up in Monona and went to the University of Wisconsin. My wife and I moved back to Madison in 2014, and I recently opened
Cafe Domestique, a bicycle cafe on Willy Street. I've been in the bicycle industry since I was in high school, working as a mechanic in bike shops, managing cycling events, wrenching professionally for USA Cycling and at USA Paralympic training camps, and working for Trek Travel. Cafe Domestique is a culmination of all of those years I've spent in the bike industry and traveling. We're excited to give cyclists in Madison a place to meet, drink a great cup of coffee and socialize.
Why do you recommend bike sharing?
Even as someone who owns a lot of bicycles, there are situations when having the opportunity to drop off at a different location than your pick up makes a lot of sense. We also use BCycle when we've got friends in town and need a few extra bikes to show them our city.
What is your favorite BCycle Memory?
My favorite BCycle memory is actually from a long layover in Denver when my connecting flight was delayed. The Denver airport was not a place I wanted to spend my day, so I took the light rail into downtown Denver, checked out a BCycle, and cruised around for a couple of hours. What could have turned into a 7 hours of misery at the airport turned into a pretty great afternoon of riding bikes, drinking coffee and catching up with friends.
