Popular hand-painted bikes return for second year
(Madison, WI) - Madison B-cycle, Dreambikes of Madison, and The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County will unveil a whole new line of custom-painted ArtBikes on August 1st at Union South. Kicking off at 4pm, the launch event will showcase 18 Madison B-cycles hand-painted by youth members of the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County. The artists, along with the Boys and Girls Club’s Michael Johnson, will be present to showcase the unique works of active art.
For each ride taken on an ArtBike, Metcalfe’s Market will donate $1 to the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County. 2012’s ArtBikes garnered massive attention, and proved to be a B-cycle rider favorite. While the original ArtBike fleet of 11 made up only 3% of B-cycles in Madison, they accounted for 10% of the trips taken in August of last year.
“The bikes provide a great venue to showcase the talents of the Boys and Girls Club kids because they’re rolling around all over Madison,” said Madison B-cycle Manager Claire Hurley. “I’m happy we can provide extra visibility to such an important organization in our community. Last year we saw riders intentionally seeking out ArtBikes to make sure they had taken a ride on each one!”
After being painted by Boys and Girls Club members, the ArtBikes B-cycles were weatherproofed by Trek Bicycle and reassembled by DreamBikes of Madison. The bikes will be in circulation August 1st through December 15th. Click here to see images of the 2012 ArtBikes
