Bicycle accessibility to offset increased traffic, lane closures for 50,000-plus rally
(Madison) - For President Obama’s visit to Madison on Monday, November 5th, Madison B-cycle and DreamBikes Madison, in coordination with The City of Madison Parks Department and the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin will be providing additional bike parking at Peace Park located between State and Gilman Streets. The area, which will be staffed by DreamBikes and Madison B-cycle staff, will be open starting at 6am.
Madison B-cycle will provide bike parking for those arriving by B-cycle, as well as additional bike parking for anyone who bikes to the event. Those riding personal bikes are recommended to bring their own lock. Coffee from Fair Trade Coffee House will be available to bikers starting at 7am.
The event, which will include a speech from President Barack Obama and a performance by Bruce Springsteen is expected to attract over 50,000 people to Madison’s Capitol area. Multiple street closures and increased traffic volume will make traveling by foot and bicycle even more appealing.
